Summary

He thinks she's an annoying know-it-all。。。

Hugh Prentice has never had patience for dramatic females, and if Lady Sarah Pleinsworth has ever been acquainted with the words shy or retiring, she's long since tossed them out the window。 Besides, a reckless duel has left this brilliant mathematician with a ruined leg, and now he could never court a woman like Sarah, much less dream of marrying her。

She thinks he's just plain mad。。。

Sarah has never forgiven Hugh for the duel he fought that nearly destroyed her family。 But even if she could find a way to forgive him, it wouldn't matter。 She doesn't care that his leg is less than perfect, it's his personality she can't abide。 But forced to spend a week in close company they discover that first impressions are not always reliable。 And when one kiss leads to two, three, and four, the mathematician may lose count, and the lady may, for the first time, find herself speechless 。。。

New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn's enchanting third novel in the Smythe-Smith quartet is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud and tug at your heartstrings in equal measures。

I was really vibing with this one until I wasn't。 Unfortunately the climax/drama of the book was too much for me。 But the first 2/3 of the book I really enjoyed!Steam level 3ish? Bel romanzo, due personaggi con personalità originali e forti。 Una bella storia articolata, non scontata, con la giusta ironia。

Better than book 2, but only because of Hugh, who was charmingly funny with his dry wit, and I loved watching him be charmed by Sarah's sisters。 I hope Sarah's sisters get their own novels。 Quinn has certainly set herself up for multiple series。 Better than book 2, but only because of Hugh, who was charmingly funny with his dry wit, and I loved watching him be charmed by Sarah's sisters。 I hope Sarah's sisters get their own novels。 Quinn has certainly set herself up for multiple series。 。。。more

Alright I liked the book。 In fact, I liked it way more than I thought I would。 But like… can poor Freddie get a book please? Is there one? He also needs a happy ending!!😭😭 this is my first Julia Quinn book and I doubt she writes M/M but damn, poor guy。 He deserved better than this。 My poor heart! I really felt for Hugh, especially because Sarah was batshit crazy at first。 I thought she was going to be the most annoying heroine, and she really was for but it worked out pretty well as they grew cl Alright I liked the book。 In fact, I liked it way more than I thought I would。 But like… can poor Freddie get a book please? I'm not going to lie, it took me a while to get into this book, mainly because I found Hugh's character to be a little painful, but once his true colours were slowly revealed, I started to get pulled in。 I also found Sarah to be a little pretentious and spoilt for placing all the blame on Hugh as to why she was not yet married。 Once they started to let this go, I found the book all the more enjoyable, especially when Sarah started to put a little faith in Hugh and see that he wasn't a terrible p I'm not going to lie, it took me a while to get into this book, mainly because I found Hugh's character to be a little painful, but once his true colours were slowly revealed, I started to get pulled in。 I also found Sarah to be a little pretentious and spoilt for placing all the blame on Hugh as to why she was not yet married。 Once they started to let this go, I found the book all the more enjoyable, especially when Sarah started to put a little faith in Hugh and see that he wasn't a terrible person。 It is very clear that Hugh has had to go through a lot in his life, and that has shape the person who he is。 I feel as though Sarah is able to balance him out and provide an aspect of his life that is happy and consistent, which is what I love to see。 。。。more

2nd read。 It took me a few days to get through this book because I was not motivated or interested in reading it。 This is Hugh and Sarah’s love story。 It’s an enemies to lovers story, but they don’t actually spend much of the book as enemies。 It is a rare situation when I have several complaints about plot holes in a Julia Quinn romance。 This book is the first that comes to mind。 There are some mild spoilers below, so please don’t continue reading if you want to avoid them。 First, Hugh is descri 2nd read。 It took me a few days to get through this book because I was not motivated or interested in reading it。 This is Hugh and Sarah’s love story。 It’s an enemies to lovers story, but they don’t actually spend much of the book as enemies。 It is a rare situation when I have several complaints about plot holes in a Julia Quinn romance。 This book is the first that comes to mind。 There are some mild spoilers below, so please don’t continue reading if you want to avoid them。 First, Hugh is described in 3 books as a mathematical savant。 He can multiply huge sums in his head instantly, counts everything, and never forgets numbers。 And yet in his own book, his skills served no purpose at all in any part of the story。 Why spend so much time developing this and have it be meaningless?Second, Sarah’s sisters and cousins (including Daniel) continuously go out of their way to put Hugh and Sarah together throughout the book。 They all know that Sarah is desperate for marriage, so why put them together if they aren’t trying to set them up? And yet, when Daniel catches them kissing, he acts like he’s shocked and starts a fight with Hugh。 It was such a ridiculous moment but was used as a pivotal point in the story anyway。 Sarah’s big confrontation with Hugh’s father wasn’t remotely believable。 We learn that this man physically and sexually abused his wife and felt that as the “lord and master” he could take any woman without consent。 Are we really supposed to believe that a man like this is going to be scared off and controlled by Sarah’s bossiness after spending 20 minutes with her? I think not。 Speaking of Hugh’s father, he is obsessed with having new heirs because both of his sons are a disappointment to him。 Why would he not have remarried and had more kids instead of blackmailing his son into it? If he was so obsessed with heirs as described, and if he was still sexually active as described, then he had zero dependency on these sons。 He could have made a dozen more miserable children。 We learn at one point that Hugh’s father pays household servants, including Hugh’s own valet, to spy on Hugh and report back。 Hugh never does anything to correct this massive breach of protocol with his staff that we know of。 The subject is completely dropped and never dealt with。 This book just felt like a mess to me。 And frankly, Sarah and Hugh were not especially likable characters either。 I would not re-read this book again。 。。。more

There was some cute banter and it's always nice to have a main character with a disability showing you can still be a bad ass but the ending was sooo weird。 There was a bad guy and a big dramatic scene kind of out of nowhere。 Would have been better with the intrigue more integrated throughout。 There was some cute banter and it's always nice to have a main character with a disability showing you can still be a bad ass but the ending was sooo weird。 There was a bad guy and a big dramatic scene kind of out of nowhere。 Would have been better with the intrigue more integrated throughout。 。。。more

THIS IS JUST SO F*CKING MAGICAL! Hugh is a wounded man literally and metaphorically from a mistake he regrets and there goes our heroine healing his heart。 From hate to truce to respect to like to LOVE。 "But tonight。。。It was magical, almost spiritual, and he knew that there was no way he could ever thank her for this moment, for restoring a piece of his soul" This book just made me believe in that so called burning passion and love again。 THIS IS JUST SO F*CKING MAGICAL! This was absolutely fantastic!!! Of course it was going to be the best of the series, it's a hate to love with tons of banter, drama, fun with the previous couples and overall it was just wonderful。 I really felt for Hugh and his wound, and I liked Sarah's character evolution。 They're my favorite couple of the series, hands down。 But it's no suprise, since this was book that motivated me to read the series (from all the historical romance videos I've been watching on Youtube)。 This was absolutely fantastic!!! 4。5 starsThe wit and conversational aspect of this book is so strong and so powerful it, in all honesty, earned the four and a half stars all by itself。I found my myself actually laughing aloud on multiple occasions。The banter is to die for。 I haven’t read this amount of quality banter since reading Wallbanger! The only reason it is laking a half of a star, is because it is just like every other Julia Quinn novel。 Absolutely brilliant, but the general storyline is not all that surprising。 4。5 starsThe wit and conversational aspect of this book is so strong and so powerful it, in all honesty, earned the four and a half stars all by itself。I found my myself actually laughing aloud on multiple occasions。The banter is to die for。 I haven’t read this amount of quality banter since reading Wallbanger! The only reason it is laking a half of a star, is because it is just like every other Julia Quinn novel。 Absolutely brilliant, but the general storyline is not all that surprising。 。。。more

This one wasn't bad and doesn't do much wrong by itself, it's just that most of it has been seen before。 Obviously some repetition and tropes are common in romance, but this felt like a mash-up of several of Julia Quinn's other books, which is a bit much。 Glad I just listened to the audiobook and didn't spend too much time or money on it, this was fine for what it was。 This one wasn't bad and doesn't do much wrong by itself, it's just that most of it has been seen before。 Obviously some repetition and tropes are common in romance, but this felt like a mash-up of several of Julia Quinn's other books, which is a bit much。 Glad I just listened to the audiobook and didn't spend too much time or money on it, this was fine for what it was。 。。。more
